Director of Travel & Tourism

Even though I grew up in the foothills of the Blue Ridge in Hickory, NC, Currituck has always held a special place in my heart. My mom’s folks are from Hertford, NC, and every summer, my sister and I would spend a month on my aunt and uncle’s farm there. It was a family tradition to gather up a whole “passel” of us cousins every summer and head on down to the Outer Banks for a week of sun and fun! I didn’t realize until later how much “fun” it was for my mom and aunts to keep us clean and fed for the week! I never thought that I would actually have the opportunity to live in Currituck. It has so much natural beauty to offer to residents and visitors alike. I am proud to call Currituck home and to have had the privilege of living from the NC mountains to the sea.

When I first came to work for Currituck, I wasn’t quite sure what I would find. I knew of the area and had visited the Outer Banks many times in my youth, but I hadn’t spent much time in Currituck. What I found was extraordinary, and it wasn’t the beaches or the horses or the history. What I found was people. Like so many other vacation destinations, beauty abounds in Currituck. But unlike so many other seaside locales, the beauty found here seems to originate in the remarkable people who live, work and were raised here. Whether it’s the lady at the lunch counter on the mainland or the guys doing horse tours in Carova, you will be greeted warmly in Currituck, and likely with a kind of sincerity that will kindle thoughts of a simpler time. You will smile, and if you’re anything like me, wonder why you hadn’t come here sooner.

I moved to the Outer Banks in 2003 after graduating from Virginia Tech. The beach was my escape for summer vacations and long weekends while in school. I love the peace and tranquility of the area and the proximity to the ocean of course. I feel very lucky to live in such a beautiful place and help share it with visitors from across the country.

Public Relations Coordinator

I moved to Currituck County in 2002 due to a military transfer for my husband who served in the Navy at that time. I am the mother of three wonderful children and love hanging out on Currituck’s 4×4 Beach. We love grilling out on the beach with friends and family, while the kids ride the waves on their boogie boards but my favorite part of the day is gazing at the Wild Spanish Mustang as they roam up and down the span of beach in Carova.

My adult life has been spent in this beautiful area.  After graduating from Chowan College, we moved to Currituck where all of my children attended and graduated from Currituck County Schools.  My constant companion is my camera… I am an avid photographer and from sunrise to sunset, I love to photograph all of the beauty that our area has to offer.  The loves of my life are my family… my husband, my children and my grandchildren.  I love my job in tourism… I have the opportunity to share and promote our area through social media marketing, our website and other online advertising. In addition, I oversee the visitor center retail operations.

My parents moved our family to the area in the summer of 1972. I have wonderful memories of day trips and week-long camping vacations on the Outer Banks with my aunts, uncles, and cousins. My husband and I have been fortunate enough to continue making memories here with our two children and adorable grandchildren. There is something to be said about catching a breathtaking sunrise or watching your grandchild take their first steps on the sand. I feel blessed to work in the travel & tourism industry for Currituck County, to call Whalehead my office and Historic Corolla Park my playground! Being a small part of our visitors and newlyweds memories on the Currituck OBX is priceless. For more information about Under the Oaks Arts Festival, Whalehead’s Christmas Craft Village or booking the property in Historic Corolla Park, 252.453.9040, Ext: 230.
